Lake Gogebic is the largest lake in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. It offers 13,380 acres of prime fishing water and is surrounded by the almost one million acre Ottawa National Forest, which includes 21,000 acre Sylvania Recreation Area. It is less than a half-hours drive from the 50,000-acre Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Highlights of Lake Gogebic’s fishing include walleye, smallmouth bass northern pike, perch and whitefish. The are hosts a spring smallmouth bass fishing tournament in May, a fall walleye fishing tournament in September and a lagged fish contest throughout the season. Prize money totaling thousands of dollars is awarded. This region is also a prime hunting hot-spot for deer and bear as well as small game and birds.
Families especially, will enjoy Lake Gogebic’s summer water sports, sightseeing, hiking in the surrounding timberlands, and the scores of colors that appear in the region’s autumn spectacular.
Winter is a "world of its own" with an annual snowfall of 200 inches. Lake Gogebic is situated within a vast snowmobile trail system extended throughout the Upper Peninsula. Cross-country ski trails are abundant and 5 major downhill facilities are within less than an hour’s drive. Also fine lodging and dining are in the immediate area.
