Created under the authority of P.A. 34 of 1990, as amended by P.A. 5 of 1998, which requires every county in the state to prepare and implement a Survey and Remonumentation program, which would provide for the identification and remonumenting of property controlling corners.  P.A. 5 of 1998 also provided authority for state financial assistance to counties in the form of annual work grants.

 

To date, Gogebic County has applied for, and received, $875,256 in annual work grants, and in addition, the Forestry and Parks Commission has provided an additional $28,860 to expedite work on county ownership.
