A meeting of the Department of Public Works Committee was held on Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at 4:45 P.M., Courthouse, Bessemer, Michigan.

Thomas,
Lewinski, Wiemeri, Kangas, Winkowski, Bennetts, Koivisto, Peterson, Loeper
Absent: None
Also Present: Juliane
Giackino, Administrator
The Chairman began the meeting by stating that there
had been an issue eliminated from the agenda, which would have been the election
of officers in addition to the two payments due for interest.
Mr. Thomas opened the floor for nominations for
the Chairperson.
A motion by Mr. Lewinski supported by Mr.
Kangas to nominate Mr. Thomas for Chairperson.
Mr. Thomas, the previous Chairperson, called
for additional nominations three times. There
were none.
A motion by Mr. Lewinski supported by Mr.
Kangas to close the nominations for Chairperson and a unanimous ballot be cast
for Mr. Thomas for Chairperson. Yeas
9, Nays 0, Absent 0. Motion
carried.
Mr. Thomas assumed the Chair and continued on
with the meeting.
Mr. Thomas then called for nominations for
Vice-Chairperson.
A motion by Mr. Loeper supported by Mr.
Bennetts to nominate Mr. Lewinski.
Mr. Thomas called three times for additional
nominations for Vice-Chairperson. There
were none.
A motion by Mr. Loeper supported by Mr. Wiemeri
to close the nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Mr. Lewinski for
Vice-Chairperson. Yeas 9, Nays 0,
Absent 0. Motion carried.
Mr. Lewinski was elected Vice-Chairperson.
The floor was now open for nominations for
Secretary.
A motion by Mr. Bennetts supported by Mr.
Peterson to nominate Mr. Kangas for Secretary.
Mr. Thomas called three times for nominations
for Secretary and there were none.
A motion by Mr. Bennetts supported by Mr.
Loeper to close the nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Mr. Kangas for
Secretary. Yeas 9, Nays 0, Absent
0. Motion carried.
Mr. Kangas was elected Secretary.
The floor was now open for Deputy Secretary.
A motion by Mr. Kangas supported by Mr.
Winkowski to nominate Juliane Giackino for Deputy Secretary.
A motion by Mr. Peterson supported by Mr.
Wiemeri that Juliane Giackino assume the position of Deputy Secretary.
Yeas 9, Nays 0, Absent 0. Motion
carried.
Juliane Giackino was elected Deputy Secretary.
The next item on the agenda was from National
City, regarding an interest payment due to National City for the County of
Gogebic, Gogebic County Water Supply System #1 for the City of Ironwood in the
amount of $8,563.75.
Mr. Lewinski stated that the County
Administrator had advised him that the money had not yet come in from the City
of Ironwood; however, upon recommendation of the Treasurer, she suggested
payment as the City has always stood behind their word and made their payments
promptly to the County.
A motion by Mr. Lewinski supported by Mr.
Loeper to pay the debt service invoice due upon receipt of the money from the
City of Ironwood. Yes79, Nays 0, Absent 0.
Motion carried.
The next item on the agenda was an invoice from
Wells Fargo regarding interest payment on the Sewage Disposal for Gogebic
Michigan, City of Ironwood, due 2/1/2002 in the amount of $14,493.75.
A motion by Mr. Lewinski supported by Mr.
Loeper to again pay the monies due to Wells Fargo for interest upon receipt of
the money from the City of Ironwood. Yeas
9, Nays 0, Absent 0. Motion
carried.
Under “Other Matters”, Mr. Lewinski stated
that he had been advised of a death of a M.AC. Board member’s wife, Robert
Lacinski, whose name is Annie and she had been ill and passed away.
A motion by Mr. Lewinski supported by Mr. Wiemeri
that the Administrator send a letter of condolence to the Lacinski family for
the death of his wife Annie. Yeas

carried.

A motion by Mr. Wiemeri supported by Mr. Bennetts to
adjourn. Motion carried.
